If you have visited and inspected an asset without using the KaarbonTech TreeSMART app on your tablet, you can retroactively add the inspection into the system in the Data & Insights hub.
Note: This is not recommended, as inspections and any other work should be logged on the tablet at the time and location of the works.
Adding an Inspection
Inspecting an asset allows you to record your visit to the asset and input the required information . The steps are the same for all tree assets, but the questions may be slightly different for groups. Enter as much information as you can.
From the map screen, navigate to the asset in question. This can be done by moving the map, or searching for the asset ID using the Find Menu.
Click the required asset.

Click New Inspection.

The asset information page is displayed.
Note: Every system is slightly different as it is customised for each customer. Some of the questions and/or photo uploads may be mandatory, and some may be checkbox lists rather than searchable fields.
You do not need to answer every question. You may skip any that are not mandatory or are irrelevant to your inspection.
Traffic Management
Click the Traffic Management drawer.

Click to select the traffic management method used to access the asset. Choose the relevant value here if you had to set up any traffic management to access the asset or provide a safe working environment.

If the asset was inaccessible for any reason, you should Upload a photo (see below) showing the obstruction before saving the inspection.
Inspection details
When carrying out an inspection, it is advisable to input as much information as possible. Unless the asset is inaccessible you should always answer the following fields:
- Height
- Species
- DBH
- Defects
- Pathogens
Also complete any other mandatory questions required by your organisation.
If you are recording remedial works, you only need to answer the relevant questions and provide photos of the work undertaken.
Click the Tree Properties drawer.

Enter the Height of the tree in metres

Enter the Canopy spread and First significant branch values.

Scroll to and select the Number of stems.

Enter the DBH (diameter at breast height) value. This will automatically calculate the RPA and RPA Radius.
Click the Tree Observations drawer.

Select the Life stage.

Select the Health and Vitality value.

To select Pathogens, begin typing the name of the pathogen and click to select it from the list. Click the i icon to see the list of available options.

Repeat the same process for Defects.

Enter your observations in the General observations field. This is where you should input your findings about the tree and your recommendations for any remedial work that is required.

Select the Structural Condition of the asset

Select the Estimated Remaining Contribution.

Other questions may be available depending on the configuration of your system, such as:
- QTRA
- TRAQ
- THREATS evaluation
- Risk Evaluation
- Actions Carried out this visit.
- Percentage of Canopy Missing
- Ash Die Back evaluation
Once all relevant information has been entered, Click No Photos to open the Photos drawer.

Click Choose file to upload a photo. Browse to the file on your computer and select it. Depending on the configuration of your system, you may upload up to 10 photos per inspection.
Add any final comments to the Any comments box, and set the time and date of the historic inspection.
Note: You will not be able to save the inspection until you have set the date and time, and it cannot be set to the future.

Click Save to save the inspection.
